Presentation Design

In recent discussion of presentation, a controversial issue has been whether PowerPoint is a good way to present your information. On the one hand, some argue that PowerPoint is great. From this perspective, people usually put a lot of words in a slide. On the other hand, however, others argue that PowerPoint is good as long as there aren’t lots of words. According to this view, people prefer to see only images in slides. In sum then, the issues is whether we should have more words or pictures in the PowerPoint.

My own view is that it is better to have more pictures, because we cannot learn things when we write and listen at the same time. Though I concede that I am a note taker. I still maintain that teachers should contain more images in their PowerPoint. Although some might object that students have to take notes. I would reply that students will learn more if the PowerPoint is more exciting. The issue is important because it affected the ways students learn.

For example, look up for different websites, and compare the information. Although some might object that you will never find the right answers. I would reply that sometimes there might be more than one answer. The issue is important because we are in the environment fill with technologies.

The Teaching Channel

In the recent discussion of digital citizens, we can see how Mr. Pane engage his students from the video. From this perspective, he continued to remind the students that it is your own choice to make decisions. On the other hand, Mr. Pane had the students design their own characters, which made the students engaged with the class. In addition, students would go around and look at each other’s characters. My own view is that it is really helpful to have students do the comic strips in the classroom, and will help them learn at the same time.

Copyright 101

In recent discussions of copyright, a controversial issue has been whether we violate the copyright. On the other hand, some argue that materials without copyright symbols are free to take. From this perspective, it is not exactly what copyright means. On the other hand, however, others argue that notice that copyright is not require. According to this view, if you can’t find copyright symbols, assume that the material is already protected by copyright. In sum then, the issues is whether the material is protected by the copyright or not. Additionally, there are four tests for fair use, which include the purpose and character of the use, the nature of the work being copied, the amount of the work being used, and the effect of your use on the market for or value of the work being copied.

My own view is that teachers should know the rules of copyright. Though I concede that sometime we don’t even know that we violate the copyright. I still maintain that ask before you use anything. For example, if the media/ DVD says home use only, then don’t show it to the class. Although some might object that copyright is confusing. I would reply that we should always be careful as educators. The issue is important because no one want to violate copyright.

Technology Issues

On the other hand, others argue that technologies can help students become more creative. According to this view, technologies seem to be helpful in classrooms. In sum then, the issues is whether technologies are issues in the classroom or not.

My own view is that technologies may create some problems, but teachers can totally control the use of technologies in their classrooms. Though I concede that it is hard to watch over every single students. I still maintain that it is teachers’ responsibilities. For example, the teachers can set up specific rules for technologies use in the classrooms, and teachers can also control how much/ how long to use technologies in classrooms. Although some might object that students will totally be distracted with technologies. I would reply that technologies can help students grow in the 21st century. The issue is important because it involve everyone.
